After wandering around for a while, I ended up in a ceramics studio. There, I discovered my creative side and learned the basics of working with ceramics. Within six months, I even gave my first class!
However, I felt that something was missing in my work with clay. Then I stumbled upon tile mosaics, which immediately got my attention. I decided to explore the subject further and attended a part-time course in Antwerp, Belgium. There I learned to work with a hammer and anvil, just like the Romans did. This new passion led me to Spilimbergo, Italy, home to a famous mosaic school.
Here, they create beautiful mosaics using natural stone and glass. I attended several courses and fell in love not only with the craft, but also with the nature of the Friuli region. Since then, my partner and I have had a small holiday home there. We go there regularly and I also organise workshops there for all kind of ages.
After more than 20 years, my work has become a mix of different styles and materials. I like to play with contrasts: materials, textures, shine, unevenness. The possibilities of ceramics and mosaics are endless. For me, it’s always a new adventure!
I have had the pleasure of completing countless wonderful commissions, both for companies and private individuals. From small works of art to large projects, each piece has been created with love and attention. I also enthusiastically teach courses for both beginners and advanced students in special locations in the Netherlands, Italy and even on the Caribbean island of Aruba!
